Part 1 of 2 - your constitution

Question 1 of 20

Think about most of your life

Answer for how you have been for as long as you can remember, not how you have been this month. If two options fit, pick the one that has been true for longer.

Which best describes your natural body frame?
How has your weight behaved over your adult life?
What is your skin like most of the time?
How would you describe your hair?
What is your appetite normally like?
How is your digestion and elimination, generally?
Which weather suits you best?
How does your energy typically behave?
What is your sleep normally like?
How do you learn and remember things?
How do you speak and move?
Under real pressure, you tend to become:
How has your sleep been in the last 30 days?
How has your digestion been lately?
How has your skin been lately?
How has your energy been in the last month?
How have you responded to stress recently?
How has your appetite been lately?
What does your body feel like at the moment?
How has your focus been in the last month?

What is my dosha?

In Ayurveda, a dosha is a pattern of qualities rather than a personality type or a category you belong to. Three of them describe everything in the body and mind: Vata governs movement, Pitta governs transformation, and Kapha governs structure. Everyone has all three. What differs is the proportion, and that proportion is what this quiz estimates.

Knowing which dosha leads in you is useful because it tells you what your normal actually looks like. A routine that steadies one constitution can unsettle another, which is why generic wellness advice works brilliantly for some people and does nothing for others.

Prakriti vs Vikriti: why this quiz gives you two answers

Most dosha tests ask twenty questions, mix them together, and hand back a single label. That is where the confusion comes from - people read the result and think “this describes how I have been this year, but not how I have been my whole life.” Both readings are real, and Ayurveda has always treated them as two different things.

Prakriti is your constitution - the balance you were born with, which stays put. Vikriti is your current state, which moves with the season, your workload, your sleep, and what you have been eating. The gap between the two is the part you can actually do something about, so this quiz asks about them separately: twelve questions about your life, eight about your last thirty days.

How this dosha test works

  • Questions 1 to 12 ask about your whole life - frame, skin, hair, appetite, digestion, sleep, memory, and how you respond to pressure. These estimate your constitution.
  • Questions 13 to 20 ask about the last 30 days - the same territory, but recent. These show what is currently elevated.
  • Scoring is transparent. Each answer adds one point to a dosha. One dosha clearly ahead gives a single type, two close together give a dual type, and all three within range give tridoshic - seven possible results.
  • Nothing leaves your browser. The scoring runs on your device. We do not receive your answers, and there is no account to create.

Is this Ayurvedic body type quiz accurate?

It is as accurate as any self-report questionnaire can be, which is to say: useful for orientation, not definitive. A quiz only knows what you tell it, and people answer differently depending on mood, recent events, and how they see themselves. Splitting the questions into constitution and current state removes the most common source of error, but it does not remove all of them.

A traditional assessment is a different thing entirely: an Ayurvedic practitioner reads the pulse, examines the tongue, eyes, and skin, and takes a full history before naming a constitution. If you want a definitive answer, that is where to get it. Use this quiz to get oriented and to find out which of our guides are worth your time.

Dosha quiz questions, answered

Is this dosha quiz free?

Yes, completely. There is no paid tier, no trial, and no upsell. The quiz runs entirely in your browser.

Do I have to give my email to see my result?

No. Your result appears on the page as soon as you finish, in full, with no email address and no sign-up. Most dosha quizzes hold the result back until you hand over an email. This one does not.

What is my dosha?

Your dosha is the pattern of qualities that runs strongest in you. Ayurveda describes three: Vata (air and space - light, dry, mobile), Pitta (fire and water - hot, sharp, focused), and Kapha (earth and water - heavy, stable, steady). Most people have one or two that lead. This quiz asks about your body, digestion, sleep, energy, and temperament to work out which.

How accurate is an online dosha test?

Treat it as orientation rather than assessment. A questionnaire can only work from what you report about yourself. A traditional constitutional assessment involves pulse reading, tongue and eye examination, and a full personal history taken by a trained practitioner. This quiz is a useful starting point and a genuinely helpful framework, but it is not a clinical evaluation and it does not diagnose anything.

What is the difference between prakriti and vikriti?

Prakriti is your constitution - the balance of doshas you have had for as long as you can remember. Vikriti is your current state, which drifts with season, stress, diet, and sleep. Most quizzes blend the two and give you one answer, which is why people often get a result that does not match what they remember about themselves. This quiz measures them separately and reports both.

Can my dosha change over time?

Your constitution does not change, but your current state does, and it can change a lot. That is exactly why the second half of this quiz asks about the last 30 days. If you take the quiz again after a season change, a stressful stretch, or a period of travel, expect the current-state reading to move while the constitution stays put.

Is this the same as an Ayurvedic body type quiz?

Broadly yes - "body type" is the common English shorthand for constitution. It is a slightly narrow translation, because a dosha describes digestion, sleep, energy, and temperament as much as physical build, and this quiz asks about all of them.
